Alpha Keri Oil moisturises dry skin by improving the hydrating properties of the bath or shower. The stratum corneum (protective outer skin layer) is hydrated during bathing or showering. Soaking in an Alpha Keri Oil bath or applying Alpha Keri Oil to wet skin after showering leaves an emollient film on the skin that helps retain the moisture the stratum corneum has taken up during the bath or shower. Alpha Keri Oil is a completely water dispersible bath and shower oil. Alpha Keri Oil doesn't form globules on the water surface and, consequently, it spreads evenly and uniformly over the skin to provide a moisture-retaining barrier to protect skin against dryness and irritations. In other words, the uniform dispersal of the oil in the water makes possible an even layer of oil to be deposited on the skin. Alpha Keri Oil can be used for the relief of atopic dermatitis, pruritus senilis, neurodermatitis, ichthyosis, soap dermatitis, eczematous dermatitis and other conditions manifesting dry, pruritic epidermis. It is also suitable for Infants with prickly heat, nappy rash, atopic dermatitis and dry scaly skin. Alpha Keri Oil also gently cleanses the skin. The use of Alpha Keri Oil in bath water, and when applied to wet skin immediately after showering have been clinically documented to be effective in the treatment of dry skin and in reducing the severity of xerosis. Dosage and Application Best results are obtained by soaking for 10-20 minutes in a bath of water to which Alpha Keri Oil has been added. Adults - Add 10-20mL to bath of water Children - Add 5-10mL to bath of water Infants - Add 5mL to baby bath of water Other methods of use: After Shower: When still wet, gently rub 10-20mL over entire body with sponge or washcloth. Sponge Bath: Add 10-20mL to half a litre of warm water. Rub gently over entire body with sponge or washcloth. Important: The skin should be patted dry rather than rubbed to prevent the removal of the protective film of oil that remains on the skin. INGREDIENTS AND RATIONALE The active ingredients of Alpha Keri Oil are: Mineral Oil, Lanolin Oil. Mineral Oil Mineral Oil is an emollient: It gives the skin a feeling of softness and smoothness by reducing friction and increasing lubrication. Mentholatum uses mineral oil of medium viscosity in Alpha Keri Oil. This medium viscosity oil gives good lubricity without excessive greasiness. (The 'oiliness' of mineral oil is related to its viscosity: the higher the viscosity, the more greasy the feel on the skin). Mineral Oil is also a moisturiser: It restricts trans-epidermal water loss, thus reducing the symptoms of dry skin by helping to maintain normal moisture content. Lanolin Oil Lanolin oil is a natural replacement for lipids of skin and hair. It helps retain skin moisture and increase moisture penetration. Alpha Keri Oil also contains PEG-4-Dilaurate is a non ionic emulsifier that promotes the formation of oil-in-water emulsions. It reduces the surface tension barrier between mineral oil and water, thus allowing the mineral oil to disperse uniformly in tiny droplets throughout the bath water. The uniform dispersal of the oil in water makes possible an even disposition of oil on the users skin. The concentration of PEG-4-Dilaurate in a bath oil is critical to a successful product. If the emulsifier content is too high, the emulsion will be too stable, and the oil will remain emulsified in the bath water and there will be little deposition on the skin. If the emulsifier content is too low, the emulsion will be unstable, and the oil will tend to float on the waters surface. The concentration of PEG-4-Dilature in Alpha Keri Oil ensures optimum oil deposition on the users skin during a tub bath soak of 10-20 minutes, and ensures that Alpha Keri Oil applied directly to wet skin after showering will emulsify on the user's skin, leaving an emollient film. PEG-4-Dilature also cleanses the skin, eliminating the need for soap.
